Paired to Perfection

Last weekend we co-hosted our first Tea + Chocolate pairing with the amazing artteas in Ubud, Bali. We hosted 11 guests – most of whom were ex-pats living in Ubud and artteas regulars. Over the course of the evening, all 11 guests sampled 5 teas from all over the world, including Indonesia, China, and Japan, as well as 5 Elevated Cacao chocolates.

The setup of the space was ideal and quickly got everyone chatting and interacting. After all, it's not just about tea + chocolate, it's about having fun.

Everyone sat together at one long table and could see the preparation and brewing of each tea happening in real time. It was also a chance for us to get to know one another. Even though Ubud is a very small town, I always find I’m amazed by just how many people I don’t know. Events like these give us not only a chance to interact with our customers, but to make friends and widen our community.

The pairing was interesting as everyone’s palates are so incredibly different. Pairings we thought would be quite complementary for one another some people didn’t favor as much, while others absolutely loved them. It was interesting to consider whether it is best to balance the two items together, complement, highlight one over the other—really there are so many things to consider when putting pairings together.

Overall, the event was a huge success, and everyone left artteas on a major high; between the chocolate and the tea, I think we all floated out of there. Paul and I learned so much too and are really looking forward to our next pairing where we will refine some of the feedback and lessons learned from the first. We are working with artteas now to put the next set of dates together, most likely in July. So, if you’re around Ubud, please consider joining us. Whether you’re a tea lover, chocolate lover, both, or neither – there’s a great deal to be learned about what foods go well together and why we like what we like.

Hanging out at artteas is pretty awesome too.
